Menopause isn’t only a hormonal change. It’s a metabolic one. It can change how your body holds weight, uses energy, and responds to treatment. Not every provider treats it that way. At Found, we look at the whole picture, so we can care for the whole you
Good questions. Straight answers.
Is HRT safe? Isn’t there a cancer risk?
There’s a lot of outdated fear around hormone therapy. For most healthy women who start HRT before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, modern HRT is not only safe, it carries real benefits for bone, heart and brain health. Because every woman’s health history is different, a Found clinician will help you understand your individual risks and choose the right treatment for you.
I thought a study confirmed HRT causes cancer?
The 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study caused a lot of unnecessary fear around hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It used outdated hormones, started them at the wrong time (missing the ideal window), and analyzed the data incorrectly, so its results aren’t relevant to today’s approach. Today, using bioidentical hormones (like the ones Found offers) at the right time, closer to menopause, makes HRT safe for most women and brings many health benefits, with very low risk. When done right, HRT can be a game-changer for your health. Your clinician will walk through what it means for you.
How do I know if HRT is right for me?
Start with a quick assessment. A Found clinician reviews your symptoms, history and goals, and tells you whether HRT makes sense, on its own or alongside the rest of your care. No guessing, no one-size-fits-all.
Is there a right time to start?
There’s an ideal window. Starting hormone therapy closer to menopause, generally within about 10 years of it and before age 60, is linked to the greatest benefit and the lowest risk. Starting sooner rather than later may also support long-term bone, heart and brain health. If you’re wondering whether now is your window, a Found clinician can help you figure that out.
How do I know if I’m in perimenopause?
Perimenopause is a transition, not a switch, and there’s no single test that confirms it. Your hormones fluctuate throughout this stage, so a good clinician diagnoses it from your story, not a single lab value. They look at changes in your cycle (periods earlier, later, heavier, lighter or skipped); symptoms that are new for you, like night sweats, 3 a.m. waking, unfamiliar mood changes, brain fog, joint aches, vaginal dryness or weight settling differently; and your age, since perimenopause usually begins in your 40s (sometimes your late 30s) and typically lasts 4 to 8 years. If you’re on hormonal birth control, have a hormonal IUD or have had a hysterectomy, your cycle isn’t a reliable signal, so your age and symptoms carry more weight.
What can I expect after starting?
Many women notice symptom relief fairly quickly, often within weeks: better sleep, steadier mood, fewer hot flashes. Your clinician sets expectations for your specific plan and adjusts as your body responds.
What are the side effects?
Like any treatment, HRT can have side effects. They may include breast tenderness, bloating or mood changes, and are usually mild. You’ll talk through your history and any concerns with a Found clinician before starting, and they’ll stay with you to adjust as needed.
How much does it cost? Do I need insurance?
You don’t need insurance. With insurance, your visits are billed to your plan (Found is in-network with PPO plans) and the medication is $79 a month for estrogen and progesterone, or $49 a month for either alone [CONFIRM: $49 or $50 for progesterone]. Without insurance, it’s $119 a month for estrogen and progesterone, or $89 for either alone [CONFIRM: $89 or $90], with everything included. Vaginal estrogen cream is $79 for a three-month supply with insurance or $119 without, and $20 less when added to another treatment. Already a Found member? Add Hormone Care at a member price with no new intake. Everything is HSA/FSA eligible.
